Mette Vangsgaard studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, from which she graduated in 1996. Vangsgaard creates collages and sculptures in ceramics and glass about nature and man. Her works express thoughts, dreams, and autobiographical memories about nature, and the relationship between man and his/her surrounding world. The works incorporates traits from non-everyday movements such as symbolism, expressionism, and naïve art – but spiced up with a contemporary awareness about the picture’s character of being a sign. The pieces bear witness to an interest of social classes and modern life forms, and achieve an expression which stretches from the refined and a colourists, sensitivity to the trashy and raw.
Mette Vangsgaard lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.
