Mette Vangsgaard currently lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. She graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1996. In 2011 she was awarded the 3-Year Working Grant from The Danish Arts Council.

Mette Vangsgaard develops collages and sculptures related to nature and man. She investigates man`s conception of nature, dreams, and memory in motifs from everyday life with traits from non-everyday movements such as symbolism, expressionism, and naïve art – but spiced up with a contemporary awareness about the picture’s character of being a sign. Her works bear witness to an interest of social classes and social structure and the works achieve an expression which stretches from the refined and a colourists, sensitivity to the trashy and raw.
