Mette Vangsgaard currently lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. She graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1996. In 2011 she was awarded the 3-Year Working Grant from The Danish Arts Council.

Mette Vangsgaard develops collages and sculptures related to nature and man. She investigate human condition, dreams and memory in motifs from everyday life with traits from non-everyday movements such as symbolism, expressionism and naïve art – but spiced up with a contemporary awareness about the picture’s character of being a sign. Her works bear witness to an interest of social classes and social structure and the works achieve an expression which stretches from the refined and a colourist sensitivity to the trashy and raw.
